MAGENTO INTEGRATION

Magento Dynamics 365 Integration (Finance and Operations): Connectors, Cost and Timeline

Finance and Operations exposes its data through OData over public data entities, so Magento orders can post as sales orders while stock, prices and invoices come back. The work sits in entity keys, company scoping and service protection limits on the API.

WHAT SYNCS

What moves between Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations and Magento.

DATADIRECTIONNOTES
OrdersOut of MagentoMagento orders post as Finance and Operations sales orders (Alumio). Over OData, a call needs every field of the entity key to succeed (Microsoft).
InventoryInto MagentoF&O stock returns to Magento (Alumio, MARINI). Microsoft's Inventory Visibility Add-in does not use the OData or custom service endpoints, so service protection limits do not apply to it (Microsoft).
Products and pricesInto MagentoProduct master data and prices come from F&O (MARINI, Alumio).
CustomersBoth waysCustomer data is company-scoped, and OData returns only the user's default company unless the request adds cross-company=true (Microsoft).
B2B accounts and price listsInto MagentoFolio3's page lists trade agreements and special pricing for B2B retail and wholesale customers. Pick one owner for contract pricing before mapping it.
InvoicesInto MagentoInvoices and invoice status return to Magento (Alumio, MARINI).
ShipmentsInto MagentoAlumio and MARINI list shipments among the flows.
Returns, credit memos and cancellationsBoth waysFolio3's page lists support for order cancellations and refunds and says it tracks returned orders and cancellations. The Alumio, MARINI and Skyvia pages do not describe a returns or credit memo flow. Ask each vendor how a refund or credit memo posts, and budget a custom flow if the answer is no.

THE API

The Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations API.

ASPECTDETAIL
API typeOData v4 REST endpoint over public data entities at [your root URL]/data, with batch requests (a changeset runs as one atomic unit). First-level $expand only. JSON-based and SOAP custom services and a read-only REST metadata service sit alongside it. OData actions added through extensions are not currently supported.
AuthenticationOAuth 2.0 through Microsoft Entra ID for OData, JSON custom services and the REST metadata service. Authorization code grant and service-to-service client credentials (shared secret or certificate) are supported. The external app is registered in Entra, then added under Microsoft Entra applications in Finance and Operations and tied to a service account user.
Rate limitsService protection limits apply to online environments only, not on-premises or development ones. Resource-based limits (active since version 10.0.19) throttle requests with HTTP 429 when web server resources pass a threshold, a state that may come from the combined load of all integrations. User-based limits (6,000 requests, 1,200 seconds of combined execution time within a 5-minute window, and 52 concurrent requests, per user, application ID and web server) became optional and were disabled by default in 10.0.35, and are removed in 10.0.36. OData server-driven paging has a maximum page size of 10,000. Recurring integrations, the Data Import/Export Framework, Data Integrator and the finance and operations apps connector are exempt from service protection limits.

CONNECTOR OPTIONS

Connector options.

NAMETYPENOTESLINK
Folio3 Magento to Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations connectorExtensionFolio3 pre-built connector for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations. The page lists order cancellations and refunds, returned orders, trade agreements and special pricing, multiple warehouses and multiple Magento stores. Pricing is a one-time installation fee plus yearly maintenance and support; no amounts are shown.Vendor page (opens in a new tab)
i95Dev Adobe Commerce and Dynamics 365 Finance and OperationsExtensioni95Dev has an Adobe Commerce and Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations integration page, but its content would not load for a fetch (bot check), so no features, prices or versions are stated here. Ask i95Dev for scope and terms.Vendor page (opens in a new tab)
Alumio Magento to Dynamics 365 Finance and OperationsiPaaSIntegration platform page. Orders post as sales orders; stock, prices and invoices return; customers and shipments are also listed. Each flow has its own timing: real time on events, on a schedule, or both. Pricing mappings are configuration, with a Code Transformer for rules configuration cannot express. No subscription pricing, supported versions or refund flow is shown.Vendor page (opens in a new tab)
MARINI Magento to Dynamics 365 Finance & OperationsiPaaSMARINI lists customers, products, sales orders, inventory, invoices and shipments, with custom attributes, configurable products and bundles. Data syncs in real time or at configurable intervals. The page says on-premises F&O instances can be connected, gives no F&O version numbers and offers a demo. No subscription pricing is shown.Vendor page (opens in a new tab)
Skyvia Magento and Dynamics 365 Finance & OperationsiPaaSCloud data integration with bi-directional sync, UPSERT to avoid duplicates and change tracking so periodic runs do not reload everything. Runs on a schedule or manually. A free plan covers 10,000 loaded records per month; the page lists no paid tiers. It lists Magento and Magento Cloud as supported and does not mention refunds.Vendor page (opens in a new tab)
Recurring integrations and Data management (Microsoft)NativeMicrosoft's file and data package route, built on data entities and the Data management framework, with REST endpoints, OAuth 2.0 and a recurrence you set. Microsoft lists it as exempt from service protection limits, which suits bulk loads. It is not supported with Dynamics 365 Finance + Operations (on-premises). The Magento side is still custom.Vendor page (opens in a new tab)
MuleSoft Adobe Commerce Connector (Mule 4)iPaaSThird-party Mule 4 connector for the Magento REST API, developed by TA Digital and listed on MuleSoft Exchange. The listing says it requires an additional fee. The Magento side is covered by the connector; the Finance and Operations side needs Mule flows you build.Vendor page (opens in a new tab)
Custom build on OData and custom servicesCustomDirect integration against public data entities, using batch changesets to group requests atomically and cross-company handling for multi-entity data.Vendor page (opens in a new tab)

COST AND TIMELINE

Cost and timeline.

LEVELSCOPETYPICAL RANGETIMELINE
Level 1Connector set up and configured$3,000-8,0002-4 weeks
Level 2Custom API integration (orders, inventory, customers)$10,000-25,0004-8 weeks
Level 3 (this integration)Complex ERP sync (B2B pricing, multiple warehouses, middleware)$25,000-75,000+8-16 weeks

Typical range, quoted after a scoping call.

Level 3. Packaged connectors exist, but a Finance and Operations project still carries work a connector does not remove: entity keys that need every field, data scoped per company, and throttling that differs by environment. Folio3's page lists multiple warehouses and multiple Magento stores, which helps, but the key, company and throttling work remains. Searches for a connector published by Microsoft or Adobe returned only third-party vendors, so support for each option comes from its vendor. Sync timing depends on the tool. Alumio runs flows in real time on events, on a schedule or both, and times stock separately from orders. MARINI says data syncs in real time or at configurable intervals. Skyvia runs on a schedule or manually and moves changes after the first load. Microsoft's recurring integrations run on a processing recurrence you set in the Data management workspace. Supported versions. The Alumio, MARINI and Skyvia pages read for this page give no Finance and Operations version numbers.

WHERE THESE PROJECTS GO WRONG

Where these projects go wrong.

  • Entity keys. Microsoft states that an OData call must provide every field in the entity key. Map the key fields for each entity before the build starts.
  • Legal entities. OData returns only the default company unless the request adds cross-company=true, so a multi-company setup can look half empty to an integration that omits it.
  • Throttling you did not cause. A resource-based 429 can come from other integrations on the same environment. Microsoft expects Retry-After handling and lets you set a throttling priority per integration.
  • Old limit figures. User-based limits were optional from 10.0.35 and removed in 10.0.36, so numbers in older guides may not match your environment.
  • Bulk loads. A first catalog or stock load through OData can hit the limits. Recurring integrations and data management jobs are exempt, so large loads may belong there.
  • Totals. Tax and discounts at Magento checkout have to match what Finance and Operations calculates on the sales order. Test rounding and tax groups before go-live.
  • Warehouses. Sites and warehouses must map to Magento sources without counting a reservation twice.
  • Contract pricing. Customer-specific and tier prices come from the ERP and need one owner.
  • Write-back loops. An invoice or shipment written back to Magento should not queue the order for export again.

QUESTIONS MERCHANTS ASK

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations integration FAQ.

How does Magento connect to Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations?+
Through the OData endpoint over public data entities, or through JSON-based or SOAP custom services. All authenticate with OAuth 2.0 through Microsoft Entra ID. File-based data management and recurring integrations are the other Microsoft route.
Is there a packaged connector, and what does it cost?+
Folio3 sells a pre-built connector with a one-time installation fee plus yearly maintenance and support; its page shows no amounts. i95Dev has an Adobe Commerce and Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations page, but its content would not load for a fetch, so ask i95Dev for terms. Alumio and MARINI have no subscription pricing shown on the pages read. Skyvia has a free plan of 10,000 loaded records per month.
Will API limits cause problems?+
They can on a bulk load. Resource-based limits return HTTP 429 when server load is high, and they apply to online environments only. Recurring integrations and the Data Import/Export Framework are exempt, so large loads can go there.
Can I read data across legal entities?+
OData returns only the user's default company unless the request adds cross-company=true. A multi-company integration has to set it, or filter by company, on every call.
Do connectors handle returns and credit memos?+
Folio3's page lists order cancellations and refunds and says it tracks returned orders and cancellations. The pages read for Alumio, MARINI and Skyvia do not describe a returns or credit memo flow. Ask each vendor how a refund or credit memo posts before you pick one.
How long does an integration take?+
No vendor page read gives a go-live time. A project with several companies, warehouses or B2B pricing sits at level 3, and the table above shows the typical range. Final price and timeline come after a scoping call.
