Magento SEO

Many Magento SEO fixes are code changes: a canonical that is missing, a sitemap that lists the wrong pages, structured data that does not match the page. A generalist SEO can put these in a report but cannot ship the fix.

EST. 2008800+ BUILDSHYVÄ PARTNER

We find them and we ship the fix, because we are also the Magento agency that writes the code.

Three ways to work with us

PRICEWHAT YOU GET
TECHNICAL SEO AUDIT$2,500-5,000 fixed feeA written audit of the store, with every finding ranked and a fix described
MONTHLY RETAINER$1,500-4,000 per monthFixes shipped, keyword and page targeting, content, and monitoring
MIGRATION SEOQuoted per projectRedirect mapping and checks before and after launch

The audit price depends on store size and how many store views and catalogs it has. You get a fixed number after a short look at the store, before any work starts.

How the audit works

  1. You send the store URL.
  2. We look at the store and send a fixed fee within the $2,500-5,000 range.
  3. We crawl the store, review Search Console and the templates, and research the keywords your categories and products should target.
  4. You get the written audit in 2-3 weeks, with findings ranked and a fix described for each.
  5. You choose: hand the list to your own developers, have us ship the fixes, or move to a retainer.

What the technical audit covers

Crawl budget

We check what the crawler actually requests, which URLs are worth keeping, and what to block, noindex or remove. Magento lets you set robots directives such as INDEX/NOINDEX and FOLLOW/NOFOLLOW and manages a robots.txt file (Adobe Commerce SEO overview). The audit decides how to use them on your store.

Layered navigation and faceted URLs

Filters create combinations: color, size, price, brand, sort order, page size. Each combination can become a URL. We decide which filters deserve an indexable page and which should not exist for search engines at all.

Canonicals

Products reachable by several category paths, sorted listings, paginated pages and CMS pages all need a clear canonical. On our own store, the canonical flags for products and categories shipped switched off, so no page had a canonical until we turned them on. CMS pages and the home page had no canonical option at all, so we wrote an observer that adds the tag to both.

Structured data

We check what your theme and extensions emit, whether it validates, and whether the values match the visible page. Product, Organization, WebSite, FAQ and breadcrumb markup are the usual set.

Core Web Vitals and Hyvä

We measure real templates, find what blocks rendering, and say whether the fix is a tuning job or a frontend change. As a Hyvä Partner, frontend changes on Hyvä are our own work. Our performance work covers the tuning side, and performance and hosting covers the server side.

Sitemaps

Magento includes a sitemap generator that can list pages and images (Adobe Commerce SEO overview). We check what yours actually contains: redirecting URLs, noindex pages, retired categories and CMS pages that should not be there.

Migration risks

If a replatform or upgrade is coming, the audit lists what could go wrong: URL changes, lost metadata, redirect chains, hreflang and structured data that does not carry over.

Keyword research and page targeting

Technical fixes only pay off if the right pages exist. We research what shoppers search for, then map keywords to categories and products so each page has one job. Where two pages compete for the same term, we merge, rewrite or re-target one of them.

AI search visibility

We make your store easier for AI search tools to read and cite: accurate structured data, clear product and category facts, and pages that answer a question directly. We do not promise rankings or citations in any search engine or AI tool.

What we do on our own store

We run our own Magento store, OCM Labs, which sells 6 Magento modules: Extra Fees, FAQ, Support Tickets, Webhooks, WordPress Integration and Product Messaging. The technical SEO below is code we wrote and run there. It is not a client result.

  • Canonicals. An observer, AddCmsPageCanonical, adds rel="canonical" to the home page and CMS pages. A data patch, EnableCanonicalTags, turns on the product and category canonical flags.
  • Nightly sitemap. A data patch, EnableNightlySitemapGeneration, schedules sitemap generation at 03:00 so the file does not go stale.
  • Sitemap exclusions. The ExcludeCmsPages plugin keeps utility CMS pages, such as the cookie restriction page, out of the sitemap.
  • Structured data. A module, OCMLabs/StructuredData, outputs Organization, WebSite and Product JSON-LD, Open Graph tags, and category data.
  • FAQ schema. The OCM Labs FAQ module adds a product FAQ tab and outputs FAQPage JSON-LD from the same questions. The FAQ docs explain how it works.

Established 2008, 800+ Magento builds, Hyvä Partner. We do this work on our own store before we do it on yours.

Monthly retainer

The retainer is for stores where the audit found more than a single sprint can fix, or where the catalog changes every week.

  • Fixes shipped. We write the code and deploy it through your normal release process. You do not get a list handed to your developers.
  • Targeting and content. Category copy, product template work and landing pages, written against the keywords we researched for each page.
  • Monitoring and reporting. Search Console errors, crawl stats, sitemap health and Core Web Vitals, checked every month. The report covers indexation, organic revenue and clicks.

Pricing is $1,500-4,000 per month depending on the amount of work and the size of the store.

Migration SEO

Replatforming is where stores lose search visibility, and almost always because of avoidable mistakes. Migration SEO is quoted per project and sits next to Magento migration.

  • Redirect mapping. Every old URL gets a destination that matches the intent of the page, not a blanket redirect to the home page.
  • Before launch. Crawl both sites, compare titles, canonicals, structured data and internal links, and test the redirects on staging.
  • After launch. Re-crawl, check Search Console for errors, confirm the sitemap is clean, and watch for redirect chains and soft 404s.

What we will not promise or do

We do not guarantee rankings, traffic or AI search citations. Nobody can, and an agency that does is guessing. We promise the audit findings, the fixes we ship and the monitoring we report.

Link building is not included in any of these services. If you need it, we will say so and you can buy it elsewhere.

QUESTIONS MERCHANTS ASK

Magento SEO FAQ.

How much does Magento SEO cost?+
A technical audit is a $2,500-5,000 fixed fee. A monthly retainer is $1,500-4,000. Migration SEO is quoted per project. You get the exact figure after we look at the store.
How long does the audit take?+
The written audit arrives 2-3 weeks after you send the store URL and we agree the fee.
What is the difference between the audit and the retainer?+
The audit tells you what is wrong and how to fix it, and it is a one-off job. The retainer is where we keep fixing, writing and monitoring month after month. Many stores start with the audit and decide afterward.
Do you fix the problems or just report them?+
We fix them. We are a development agency, so changes to templates, layout XML, canonicals, sitemaps and structured data are code we write and deploy. You can also take the audit and hand it to your own team.
Is Magento good for SEO?+
It can be. Magento gives you URL rewrites, metadata fields, a sitemap generator and robots controls (Adobe Commerce SEO overview). Results still depend on how your theme, extensions and catalog are set up. The audit shows where yours stands.
How do you handle layered navigation and faceted URLs?+
We decide which filter combinations deserve an indexable page, then block, canonicalize or noindex the rest. The right answer depends on your catalog and on what people search for, so it is a decision, not a default setting.
Do you do link building?+
No. Link building is not part of our SEO services.
Can you add FAQ schema to Magento product pages?+
Yes. The OCM Labs FAQ module adds a FAQ tab to product pages and outputs FAQPage JSON-LD from the questions you enter. We can also add it as part of an SEO retainer.
