Magento vs Wix: Features, Cost and Migration (2026)

Wix starts as a website builder and adds a store through its plans. Magento is commerce software you install, theme and extend. This page compares design, apps, editions and catalog limits from vendor pages, with a source on every row. Wix prices vary by location, so none are quoted.

FEATURES

Feature comparison.

FEATUREMAGENTOWIX
Starting pointThe README says Magento Open Source delivers basic eCommerce capabilities to build an online store from the ground up. For a full-featured solution it points to Adobe Commerce.Wix lists Free, Light, Core, Business and Business Elite plans. Accepting payments is listed on Core, Business and Business Elite, not on Free or Light.
Edition splitOpen Source files fall under OSL 3.0, and the README adds that an ordering document with Adobe (or Magento) can apply to a file instead. It says Adobe Commerce brings AI-powered merchandising and analytics plus Adobe's cloud architecture and hosting.Wix sells tiers from one plan list, not editions of software. Only Business Elite lists an advanced developer platform.
PricingWe found no Adobe Commerce price in Adobe's developer documentation.Wix says prices and currency vary by location, and its USD prices are for reference only. Displayed prices are for yearly subscriptions paid in full at purchase, so we quote none.
Design and templatesAdobe's themes guide says a theme sets the look and feel of an application area. A new theme can inherit from a parent, so you change only certain files, and Adobe strongly recommends leaving the default Luma and Blank files alone.Wix's store page says you can pick a template or describe your vision to Aria, its built-in AI design agent.
Apps and extensionsThe Adobe Commerce Marketplace offers Extensions and Themes. Its featured categories include Payments & Security and Shipping & Fulfillment, and it shows no extension count. The Wix App Market sorts apps into six categories: Marketing, Sell Online, Services & Events, Media & Content, Design Elements and Communication.
Catalog limitsNo product-count limit appears in the Adobe developer documentation we read.Wix lists up to 50,000 products, 6 options per product, 100 choices per option and 1,000 variants per product.
Upkeep and uptimeAdobe's performance guide lists its audience as experienced, admin and developer users who maintain stores in production mode.Wix says there is zero server maintenance for Wix users and zero maintenance windows. It says it kept 99.99% uptime in 2021 and points to status.wix.com for real-time availability.
Payments and checkoutAdobe's multi-site overview says stores in one installation can share cart, user sessions and payment gateways.Wix says you can accept payments from 80+ global providers.
Developer accessAdobe's web API guides cover REST and GraphQL, and the page says the APIs let you build headless applications for Adobe Commerce.Business Elite lists an advanced developer platform. Wix Headless is described as connecting your frontend to Wix infrastructure.
B2BAdobe's B2B introduction describes company accounts, shared catalogs, quick order, negotiable quotes and requisition lists, among other tools. The Wix online store page makes no B2B or wholesale claim.
SEOAdobe's SEO overview covers metadata, a site map, URL rewrites, and generating and managing robots.txt.Wix says it creates and maintains your XML sitemap and attaches schema markup to dynamic pages such as products. Each site has an editable robots.txt file, and you can import up to 500 URLs at once for bulk 301 redirects.
SecurityAdobe's launch advice puts two-factor authentication for the Admin and SSH connections first, then reCAPTCHA on the Admin and the latest release with patches applied.Wix says Comsec Global externally assesses its PCI DSS compliance and accredits it as a level 1 service provider and merchant.
SupportThe README's Get help section lists one resource, a Help center.Wix does not charge for phone, chat or email support and lists callback and chat hours by language.

MIGRATION

Migration effort.

Moving from Wix to Magento starts with the catalog. Export products, options and variants, and check whether Wix's limits of 6 options and 1,000 variants per product shaped the structure you have now. List every Wix app in use and decide which become Magento extensions, which become custom work and which you drop. Customers and order history need mapping into Magento's data model. The Wix design is rebuilt as a Magento theme, and you also choose Open Source or Adobe Commerce at this stage. Carry old URLs across with 301 redirects and re-test payments, tax and shipping. Blog posts and service pages on the Wix site need their own plan.
