✦ MIGRATION
Migration effort.
Scope catalog, customer and order data field by field. Theme code, custom extensions and checkout logic get rebuilt on the target platform. Salesforce works with Price Books and URL rules, so decide how Magento price rules and URL rewrites translate, and redirect every old URL. Salesforce updates instances every four to five weeks, so budget regression testing for that cadence. List each integration (ERP, payments, order management) and run it on a staging copy before cutover.
✦ CHOOSING
Which fits your store.
Choose Magento if
- You want an Open Source edition under OSL 3.0, with a commercial Adobe Commerce edition available.
- You want to pick where and how the store is hosted.
- Your team prefers PHP modules and themes in code.
Choose Salesforce Commerce Cloud if
- You already run on Salesforce and want Order Management and Payments from the same vendor.
- You want a licensed edition with a success plan attached.
- You are fine with Salesforce applying its release cycle to your instance.
