Staged entities are products, categories, catalog and cart price rules, CMS pages and CMS blocks.Launchpad includes a real-time analytics dashboard that tracks results while an event runs.
Inventory modelAdobe's Inventory Management uses sources (physical locations that store and ship products) and stocks that link a website to its sources. A stock can serve several sales channels, but each channel belongs to one stock.Shopify tracks inventory at locations, where you store and fulfill it. Shopify says a product must be active at a minimum of 1 location to be sellable.

It points to third-party apps or theme code for products that need more.

The metadata, sitemap and URL rewrite sections carry a "PaaS only" badge, which the page says means Adobe Commerce on Cloud and on-premises projects. It also cites 99.99% uptime on average across worldwide flash sales and events.
Customization and extensibilityAdobe's extensibility docs describe in-process customizations (PHP modules, plugins, observers) and out-of-process extensibility, where custom code runs outside the Commerce application. They say App Builder provides the platform for building Commerce applications.Shopify Functions let developers customize backend logic, for example hiding a payment option or blocking a checkout when cart quantities exceed a limit. Developers ship them inside an app that merchants install.

MIGRATION

Migration effort.

Moving between the two means a data map first. Customer accounts, order history, B2B company structures and shared catalogs or price lists each need field-level scoping. Content Staging campaigns and Launchpad events are scheduled work that gets rebuilt on the target, and Adobe sources and stocks have to be remapped to Shopify locations. Every integration (ERP, OMS, payments) is reconnected and tested on a staging copy, and the full URL set gets redirects before cutover. No sourced implementation timeline was found for either platform, so scope dates from your own data map.
