Magento vs. Avactis

Today, we continue our “Magento vs. The Rest” series with Magento vs. PrestaShop.  Over the last few months, we have been writing about the wide variety of eCommerce platforms currently available to business owners.  In a post called, “Choosing the Right eCommerce Platform: Magento vs. the Rest,” we went over the major differences between Magento and 3DCart, osCommerce, Volusion, ChannelAdvisor, and Infopia.  Over the past few weeks, we have compared Magento to a number of other eCommerce platforms, including:
Magento vs. X-Cart
Magento vs. WordPress e-Commerce Plugin
Magento vs. VirtueMart
Magento vs. BigCommerce
Magento vs. Zen Cart.
Magento vs. Microsoft ASP.NET
Magento vs. PrestaShop

Today, we are happy to present: Magento vs. Avactis.

Magento

Magento is a feature-rich, professional open-source eCommerce solution that offers merchants complete flexibility and control over the look, content, and functionality of their online store. Magento’s powerful marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), and catalog-management tools give merchants the power to create eCommerce sites that are tailored to their unique business needs.  Magento was founded in 2001 and has made a recent partnership with eBay that has enhanced its growing community of developers who are constantly improving and creating new features, extensions, and modules.  Magento has been praised for having the best technical support teams of any eCommerce platform.  Magento is ideally suited for companies that need a professional online store presence.  Magento supports the Windows, Linux, and Unix operating systems.

Sidenote: x.commerce is the combination of eBay, PayPal, and Magento and the first ever Innovate Developer Conference for x.commerce is coming up next week, on October 12th and 13th!

Avactis Shopping Cart

Avactis Shopping Cart is an open source PHP-based eCommerce platform.  Like Magento, Avactis is also based on a MySQL database.  Avactis was created in 2001 by the Pentasoft Corporation development team.  Avactis allows merchants to easily integrate an online store into their existing site, rather than needing to start from scratch.  Avactis is a convenient way to get an online business launched quickly.  The latest stable version is 2.1.1, which was released in March of 2011.

Avactis offers five different paid versions of their shopping cart solution, including Premium ($449), White Label ($399), Owned ($249), Lite ($149), and Monthly Leased ($19.95/month).  In addition, Avactis also provides their Free Shopping Cart software with limited functionality (doesn’t support multiple languages, gift certificates, etc) at no cost.

Avactis (vs. Magento)
Avactis and Magento are very similar in a number of basic ways, including:
- Neither platform has product or category limits
- Both support multiple languages
- Both have gift certificate functionality
- Neither offers a loyalty program, but both have an affiliate program
- Both provide SEO (search engine optimization) tools

- Avactis is intended for a quick online store solution, while Magento takes much more planning and precision
- Avactis tends to be for less advanced users

Based on the limited number of articles comparing Magento and Avactis (and especially the limited amount of information about Avactis alone), it seems pretty clear that Magento is a far more popular eCommerce platform.  And, of course, it comes highly recommended by us!
