Magento Announces Developer Certification

Early this morning, Magento announced the launch of their Magento Developer Certification program.  According to the blog with the announcement (which was also sent via email), “the best Magento developers have asked for a way to establish their credentials and market their skills to the growing universe of Magento merchants and Solution Partners.  At the same time, merchants and Solution Providers have wanted a more reliable means of identifying Magento developers with the expertise and experience needed to execute their projects.”  The x.commerce Innovate Developer’s Conference in San Francisco on October 12th-13th will provide the first opportunity for developers to earn their Magento Developer Certification, where a beta version of the exam will be given.

According to Magento, the Magento Developer Certification is a “professional mid-advanced level certification geared toward professional developers that have real-world experience with Magento implementations.”  An individual developer with this level of certification will:
- be easily recognized for their Magento skills
- build credibility with their network of Magento peers
- differentiate the developer from the competition
- increase the developer’s value and potential income
- gain additional knowledge through Magento-certified preparation and training
- promote developer credentials via the Magento Certified Developer logo on their resume / CV
For employers, it will much be easier to verify a candidate’s Magento knowledge.

Starting in December, developers will be able to take the exam at one of more than 10,000 testing sites throughout the world.  This site will be updated with more information about the exam availability after the x.commerce Innovate Conference where the beta version of the exam will be given on a first come, first serve basis.  There will be two version of the exams for developers to take: the standard exam (Certified Developer) and the Certified Developer Plus exam.  Itwill cost $260 to take the exam after the conference, while the exam at the conference will be discounted and will cost only $150 per person.  If you’re interested to see what the Magento Certified Developer exam will cover, check out this pdf.  If you think you have what it takes to be a Certified Developer Plus, here’s the info you need.  But if you’re attending the x.commerce Innovate Conference and plan to take the beta version of the exam, check out this pdf.

In addition to announcing the new Certified Developer program, Magento also launched a new Magento Go Affiliate Program, which we will discuss in tomorrow’s post.
